Why should I be concerned about algae on my roof?

When black algae streaks take over, not only does your roof look terrible, it makes your house appear old and dirty. It also reduces the curb appeal and value of your home. A clean roof is a sign of a well maintained home.

Where does algae come from?

Anywhere there is significant humidity in the air, roof algae follows. Algae spores are carried by the wind. The bulk of the “danger zone” tends to be where the sun beats down the hottest.

How does your roofing system control algae?

Copper stops algae. In our system, copper-fortified granules are uniformly distributed across the roof surface. Independent third-party laboratory tests ensure optimal and consistent copper content resulting in an algae resistant shingle qualified to earn the Scotchgard™ name. Scotchgard™ Protector stops algae before it ruins the aesthetic appearance of the roof.
